The following is a summary of “Radiofrequency Microneedling for Skin Tightening of the Lower Face, Jawline, and Neck Region” published in the December 2022 issue of Dermatologic Surgery by Nguyen et al.

The Radiofrequency microneedling(RFMN) procedure is the cutting edge of fractional skin rejuvenation treatments. The goals of this study are to assess the efficacy of RFMN treatment for skin rejuvenation of the lower face and neck, as well as its safety, tolerability, and patient satisfaction. Prospective, randomized, controlled, intra-subject research. 1 to 3  sessions, spaced out by 4 to 12 weeks, were administered using a fractional insulated RFMN device.  About 2  check-ins, on days 90 and 180 post-treatment, were planned.

Validated clinical measures were graded by the physician, a blinded investigator, and patients, and volume analysis of standard 3-dimensional imaging was –used to determine the outcome. About 30 patients were recruited (mean age 55.5%, Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV). The average disparity in submental volume was -4.72 cm3 (±10.1  cm3; -26.65 cm3 to +16.01  cm3).

The clinical outcome was judged as “much improved” by both the physician and the blinded researcher/subjects. The average pain level on the Numeric Rating Scale was 5.61 out of 10. No significant side effects have been seen other than transient redness and edema. Rejuvenating the lower face, jawline, and neck with fractional RFMN treatment is a safe and effective method. It’s important to have access to adequate pain relief. There was little to no downtime, and patient satisfaction was good, according to the data.
