HonorHealth is taking ownership of 26 FastMed urgent care centers in the Phoenix area.
Scottsdale, Arizona-based HonorHealth operates the urgent care locations through a joint venture with FastMed. The nonprofit system said it plans to fully take over operations this summer. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Acquiring the urgent care centers will help improve patient access by more closely aligning those sites with HonorHealth’s six acute-care hospitals, physician practices, outpatient surgery centers and other services, CEO Todd LaPorte said in a Tuesday news release. HonorHealth, which independently operates seven other urgent care locations, estimated the system serves more than 5 million people across the greater Phoenix and Scottsdale areas.
Raleigh, North Carolina-based FastMed is rapidly shedding urgent care locations. In May, Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA Healthcare said it planned to acquire 41 urgent care centers in Texas this summer from FastMed—19 FastMed locations and 22 MedPost centers in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio. After the HCA and HonorHealth deals, FastMed will still operate dozens of urgent care centers in North Carolina and Florida.
